There are three private rooms that can accommodate up to five people living side by side. Upstairs laundry facilities and a spa bathroom are shared among the group. There’s a downstairs loo, too.
The A Room is a space best suited to individuals. It’s a light and cheery room with a single bed, ample floor space, a small desk, and a big closet.
“The retreat gave me a place to feel at home after long days in the city. I liked cooking and talking together. Anne listened and offered suggestions that helped my job search.”
The Red Room boasts a queen tempurpedic bed and a moody mix of dark wood furnishing to match the burgundy walls. The space is nicely appointed for a couple with reading lamps and night stands on either side.
“The retreat is perfectly located between Archives II and the resources downtown. Having a kitchen, a local grocery, and an in-house guide helped us get situated and start our research quickly.”
Nestled in the back corner of the top floor, the Plan B Room is a bit more secluded. An old-fashioned oak double bed and a big closet is room enough for two, but it’s a nice space for a single person and a longer stay. There’s a fine print of a poem, one of my favorites, written by Joy Harjo in 1990. With permission, it was letterpress printed on handmade paper by Grantmakers in the Arts in honor of longtime director Anne Focke. I was lucky enough to be at the Seattle celebration where they made gifts of this and many other printed works. It’s now here for you to enjoy.
Here are more pictures of each room, along with the spaces we share.
